Recent heavy rain and strong winds in Penang have led to flash floods in several low-lying areas. Districts such as North Seberang Perai, Central Seberang Perai, and South Seberang Perai have been hit particularly hard. As of 8:00 AM today, ten active relief centers have been set up across the affected districts on Penang Mainland, offering shelter to approximately 180 families, including the elderly, disabled individuals, and pregnant women.
MRC Penang, with its motto “Anytime, Anywhere,” swiftly mobilized its volunteers in response to the growing number of flood victims. Volunteers from the Central Seberang Perai and South Seberang Perai branches responded to a total of seven relief centers. The operation, which began at around 6:00 PM and concluded by 1:00 AM. During the operation, MRC Penang deployed two boats, two 4×4 vehicles, and ambulances to assist in the relief efforts.
In total, hygiene kits were distributed to 35 families across the seven relief centers, helping the displaced communities during this critical time. Despite the challenges, MRC Penang remains on high alert and is closely coordinating with various agencies to monitor the situation and provide ongoing support to the most vulnerable.
On behalf of MRC Penang Chapter, heartfelt thanks go out to all Red Crescent members and volunteers for their continuous support in these humanitarian efforts. For more information, the public can contact MRC Penang’s office at 04-8275678.
