TB in Malaysia: How to Protect Yourself and Your Family

The recent tuberculosis (TB) situation in Malaysia has highlighted the importance of public awareness and preventive measures. On 25 January 2026, an outbreak was first confirmed by the Kota Tinggi District Health Office in Johor following the screening of over 800 close contacts. The index case involved a 72-year-old individual and resulted in 37 cases, including 29 children and 8 adults.

According to the Ministry of Health Malaysia, as of 21 February 2026, a total of 3,161 TB cases has been reported nationwide, with the highest number recorded in Sabah, followed by Selangor and Sarawak. Encouragingly, no deaths or infections among healthcare personnel have been reported, and the situation remains under control with schools continuing normal operations.
