World First Aid Day falls on 11th September. To mark the occasion, Malaysian Red Crescent Society Penang Chapter and the Emergency & Trauma Department Seberang Jaya Hospital, collaborate to organize webinar for “Early recognition of stroke and first aid for choking”.
It is highly encouraged to call 999 for medical assistance if they notice any early signs of stroke. But we understand that some people might not be aware of the early warning signs of stroke thus delay to call 999 or seek for medical help. The signs can be mistaken by some as a ‘funny turn’, but stroke is a medical emergency and getting the right treatment fast can save lives and reduce the devastation that stroke can bring.
Choking occurs when a foreign object lodges in the throat or windpipe, blocking the flow of air. In adults, a piece of food often is the culprit. Young children often swallow small objects. Because choking cuts off oxygen to the brain, make someone lose consciousness and even die if the obstruction isn’t removed. What should I do if someone is choking?
