MRCS Penang Youth Annual Report 2011

2011 was another active year for the Youth Units. The Youths took part in many events within the State as well as events outside the State.

The Youth Leadership Forum was held on Jan 22 at SPS Chapter with good support from SPS District Education Office. This was a dialogue session between the Chapter officers and the youth leaders in the School Units. The objective was to ensure the School Units understand the MRC operation procedures for school units, as well as to have an open discussion on youth co-curriculum matters. There were 63 youth leaders from various schools who participated, including SMK Bandar Tasek Mutiara, SMK Agama Nibong Tebal, SMK Valdor, SMK Mutiara Impian, SMK Batu Kawan, MRSM Transkrian, SMK Taman Widuri, SMK Saujana Indah and SMK Tasek.

The State Youth Camp for Secondary Schools was held from March 24 to 27 at the Teluk Bahang Recreational Forest, Penang. The participants were MRC Youth members from SMK Convent Green Lane, SMK Penang Free, SMK Dato Hj. Ahmad Said, SMK Jalan Damai, SMK Tmn Inderawasih, SMK Bandar Tasek Mutiara, SMK Simpang Empat, SMK Convent Lebuh Light, SMK(P) Methodist, SMK St. Xavier, SMJK Chung Ling Butterworth, SMK Berapit, SMK(P) St. George, SMK Tun Hussein Onn, SMK Bukit Gambir and SMK Convent Dato Keramat. The Island Chapter OC Youth Mr Daniel Lim and Youth Officer Ms Foo Lily helped in the Technical Committee.

On March 28 – 31, the Children’s Camp for Primary Schools was held at Teluk Bahang Recreational Forest, Penang. This state level camp was coordinated by Co-curriculum Technical Officer Mdm Ooi Hwei Ching who is also the SPT Chapter OC Link. The participants were MRC Link members from SK St. Xavier, SJKC Pai Teik, SK Stowell, SK Sg Gelugor, SK St. Mark Butterworth, SJKC Kuang Keow Bukit Mertajam, SJKC Boon Beng, and SJKC Seng Keow.

The SPS District Foot-drill Competition was organised by the District Education Office (PPD) of South Seberang Perai for all uniform bodies on April 23 at SMK Agama Nibong Tebal. MRC Youth Unit of SMK Sri Nibong emerged as Champion. Youth Unit from SMK Agama Nibong Tebal, SMK Simpang Ampat and SMK Tasek also took part in this competition.

The National Camp for Primary Schools was held from June 19 to 25 at Wilayah Persekutuan Labuan. The Ministry of Education Malaysia was the main sponsor and JPN Penang State Education Department selected one MRC Link member from SJKC Keow Kuang Bukit Mertajam to take part in this national camp.

The SPT District Foot-drill Competition for all uniform bodies was held on May 3 – 4 at the District Education Office (PPD) of Seberang Perai Central. The judges were appointed from various uniform bodies, included MRC Officer Ms Foo Lily, Mdm Ooi Hwei Ching and Mdm Ng Su Yin. This year, the MRC Youth contingent from SMK Sama Gagah broke a record by winning their first Championship at the district level. Another MRC Youth unit from SMK Alma BM also took part in the competition.

On May 11, the State Level Formation Foot-drill Competition was organized by the Penang State Education Department (JPN) for all uniform bodies. This was held at Pusat Kokurikulum Pulau Pinang. SMK Sama Gagah MRC Youth Unit again won the 2nd Runner up in the competition. JPN appointed judges from various invited uniform bodies, included MRC Officers Mdm Ooi Hwei Ching, Ms Foo Lily and Mdm Ng Su Yin.

The MRC International Camp (SUKBEL 2011) organized by National Headquarters at Kandis campsite, Bachok, Kelantan was held from May 28 to June 3. The Penang Branch Youth Assistant Director gave a briefing to the contingent and conducted special training for them on May 14 and May 21. Penang contingent consisted of 40 Youth members (Island 11, SPT 13, SPS 10, SPU 6) and 4 MRC teachers. Participants from Indonesia, Mongolia, South Korea, Japan, India were also at the camp. JPN sponsored a bus to transport the participants, while the Penang Branch subsidised half of the participation fees. Youth officer Ms. Foo Lily was appointed as Team Manager and she was assisted by David Leong from Tuanku Bainun Teachers Institute. Teachers Nazrin Saleha and Saai Bua made us proud as their team won the 1st Runner-up in the IHL Performance. The contingent also got a consolation prize in the Foot-drill competition. There were many activities held during the camp, such as Disaster management, CPR, station games, cultural night, camp crafts and special learning course for the young leaders.

On June 3 – 5, the SPT Chapter held a Youth Training Camp at SJKC Jit Sin A, Berapit. The camp involved about 100 young members. The activities included youth proficiency badges test and training covered foot-drill, first aid, camp crafts and fire precaution. The camp was under the supervision of SPT Chapter OC Youth Mr. Lor Wooi Seng and his youth leaders committee.

The State Education Department (JPN) organised a Leadership Camp for all NGO uniform bodies from September 12 to 15 in the national service PLKN campsite located at Bukit Besar, Kulim. 40 MRC members and 4 teachers took part. The appointed event coordinators were MRC Youth Officer Ms Foo Lily and Co-curiculum technical officer Mr. Daniel Lim.

The Penang State Government organized a Parade on Malaysia Day September 16 at Jalan Bagan Luar, Butterworth. The best MRC youth contingent from SMK Sama Gagah Permatang Pauh was selected to take part in the march past. 34 youth members and 3 teachers were involved in this event. MRC Youth Officer Ms Foo Lily was appointed as the Contingent Manager.

Volunteer Appreciation Day was organised by SPT Chapter on September 25 at the Summit Hotel, Bukit Mertajam. The chapter officers, VAD and Youth Leaders were invited to attend. The aim was to give recognition to the members committed to the society by appreciating their hard work and voluntary service. There was a ceremony to present warrants of appointment to their committee members and rewards for outstanding members.

The Penang State Co-curriculum Assembly 2011 was held on November 16 at Jawi Public Field, SPS. The Penang State Education Department (JPN) organised this Parade for all uniform bodies and annual award presentation for the outstanding schools. Mr. Lim Kuo Shee, MRC Penang Branch Asst. Director of Youth was invited to witness the ceremony and receive a Certificate of Appreciation from JPN Director. MRC contingent consisted of 80 Youth, 40 Link members and 5 teachers from SMK Sama Gagah Permatang Pauh, SMJK Jit Sin and SJKC Keow Kuang at mainland. For this event, our MRC officers and members also worked together with SJAM (St John’s Ambulance) for the first aid duty.

Penang State Education Department (JPN) organised a 3-day course on Co-curriculum Management and Administration from November 17 to 19 at Langkawi, Kedah. The main objective of this course was to improve co-curriculum coordination among the uniform bodies. At this event, all uniform bodies presented their annual activities report and project plans. The course was planned for the teachers actively involved with the uniform bodies and who would be appointed as JPN Co-curriculum Technical Officers. Mdm Ooi Hwei Ching and Ms Foo Lily were invited to participate.

In 2011, the MRC Penang State Youth Leadership Camp was held from December 20 to 22 at Taman Inderawasih, Prai. The objective was to develop leadership potential in outstanding youths, to encourage team-building amongst youths and to promote MRC youth proficiency badges scheme. About 200 members participated in this camp. Besides camp crafts which involved set up tents and gadgets at the campsite, other activities included mass-cooking, exploring the International Humanitarian Laws, international phonetics & radio telecommunication skills, Foot-drill training, fire safety precautions, casualty transportation techniques, learning practical first aid, ambulance and life-saving equipments, team building and youth gathering. The course was conducted by MRC certified Instructors, the Royal Malaysian Army (Tentera Darat Diraja Malaysia), Fire & Rescue Department of Malaysia (Jabatan BOMBA & Penyelamat Malaysia), the Scout Master and Malaysia Amateur Radio Transmitters’ Society (MARTS).

MRCS Penang Youth Annual Report 2010

Youth Units in Penang Branch had an active 2010. The Youths took part in MRC events within the State as well as events outside the State.

On March 14, the MRC Penang Youth Leadership Forum 2010 was organised at the Branch Office. This dialogue session, between the MRC Branch and Chapter officers with the School Unit Youth Officers or their representatives, was attended by 160 members and officers. This programme helped to structure the MRC Operation Procedures for the school units and was an open discussion for youth co-curriculum matters.

Several Youth Proficiency Badges Courses were held to enable the Youth members to attend and obtain proficiency in various subject matters.

In May, the SPS Chapter organised a ceremony to present Warrants of Appointment to the Youth and Link Officers.  This ceremony was officiated by the Deputy Director of the State Education Department and witnessed by the officers of the SPS District Education Office, as well as MRC Officers. The SPS Chapter conducted a fast track learning course on basic first aid skills for the teachers present.

The SPU Chapter organised a Youth Foot Drill Competition on June 12.  SMK Bagan Jaya emerged as Champions for the Form 3 Category, while SMJK Chung Ling Butterworth and SMK St Mark were First and Second Runner-ups respectively. For the Form 5 Category, SMJK Chung Ling Butterworth came out tops, followed by runner-ups SMK Bagan Jaya and SMK St
Mark.

A Youth Leadership and Fire Precaution Course was held on December 18 at Kampong Valdor, Seberang Perai Selatan for 170 members from various school units. This course presented an insight into fire regulations and general fire precautions. The course covered the role of youth leaders, the role of first responders during emergency, action on discovering a fire, causes of fire, fire safety precautions, how to use fire extinguishers, liaison with the fire service, fire safety legislation, common causes of fire, fire drills and evacuation. The course was conducted by the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (Jabatan BOMBA & Penyelamat Malaysia).

At the end of the year, the Youths had a BBQ Countdown Gathering hosted by the Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) Chapter. A total of 40 members attended the countdown gathering to usher in the New Year 2011. The event enabled members and officers to meet informally and network with each other.

Foot Drill Competitions were organised throughout the year by the District Education Office. For the SPS Formation Foot Drill Competition for Secondary Schools Uniform Bodies, MRC Youth Units from SMK Agama Nibong Tebal and SMK Bandar Tasek Mutiara were selected. This event organised by the District Education Office of SPS on May 8, was held at SMK Agama Nibong Tebal.

The State Level Formation Foot Drill Competition for Primary Schools Uniform Bodies organised by the Penang State Education Department was held on May 15. SJKC Keow Kuang Bukit Mertajam Link Unit won the 2nd Runner up placing. The contingent was trained by OC Link Mdm Ooi Hwei Ching. They were also the Champion in the past Foot Drill Competitions at the Central District Seberang Perai.

From June 18 – 20, the Penang State Education Department selected MRC Link units, SJKC Keow Kuang (2 members) and SK Stowell (3 members) to participate in the State level Primary Schools Uniform Bodies Training Camp at SMK Agama Nibong Tebal. The same group of participants were sent to the National Primary School Uniform Bodies Camp at Kem Bina Semangat, Ampang Pecah, Kuala Kubu Bahru, Selangor from June 20 – 25.

The International Friendship Jamboree 2010 was held from June 25 – 30. This international camp was held at Pusat Kokurikulum Pulau Pinang and hosted by the Ministry of Education Malaysia for the invited NGO uniform bodies (Scouts, Girl Guides, Puteri Islam, MRC and SJAM). Participants including foreigners totalled more than 1,200. The Penang State Education Department selected 7 MRC Youth Units from SMK Seberang Jaya, SMK Pokok Sena, SMK Bukit Jambul, SMK Balik Pulau, SMK Air Itam, SMK Valdor and SMA Almashoor Perempuan. MRC Youth Officer, Ms. Foo Lily, was appointed as Team Manager of the Penang State contingent. The State Education Department also invited MRC Penang to chair the Working Committee of Health and Emergency. 110 members led by Mr. Lim Kuo Shee were on rotating shifts to support the 24-hour Ambulance Service & First Aid Standby duty that covers the Campsite and Georgetown Heritage Trail.

At the Merdeka National Day Parade 2010 held on August 31, the Island Chapter sent 70 Youth members to take part in the parade. The Chapter, represented by members from SMK St Xaviers, SMK Free School and SMK Methodist Girls’ School, won third prize in the Merdeka Parade held at Queensbay Penang.

On September 28-30, the Penang Education Department organised the State-level Leadership Camp for Secondary schools Uniform Bodies. The Department invited 30 Youth members to take part in the Camp and three MRC teachers (Mr Daniel Lim, Mdm Ooi Hwei Ching, and Ms Foo Lily) to be the course trainers.

The Education Department organised a Co-curriculum Management and Administration Course in Langkawi on November 22 – 24. The objective of the course was to improve co-curriculum coordination among the uniform bodies. The Department appointed Mdm Ooi Hwei Ching and Mr Daniel Lim as Technical Officers and MRC Youth Officer Ms Foo Lily as the Secretary.

In the year under review, Penang Branch recorded a total of 200 school units. Of these, 91 were Youth Units in the secondary schools and 109 Link units in the primary schools. The total number of registered school units of 200 is a 15% increase from the figure of 174 units registered in 2006.

The Youths had an active year in 2009. In early April, the 104 Youth members and 3 VAD members from the Branch attended the MRC National Youth Volunteers Camp (PERSUBEL 2009). The team was led by Youth Officer Puan Masitah bt Abd. Rahman. This event was hosted by Kedah Branch at the Keda Bendang Man Resort, Sik, Kedah.

The Branch organised a MRC Penang State Youth Camp 2009 on May 30 – June 1 at SK Jalan Residensi, Georgetown, Penang. The objectives of this event, hosted by Island Chapter, were to develop the leadership potential in the Youths and to promote the MRC Youth Proficiency Badge scheme amongst the Youths. A total of 150 Youth members and Youth Officers from all Chapters attended. Camp crafts such as setting up of tents, gadgets and campsite; backwoodsman cooking; mass cooking; communication skills; foot-drill ; basic fire precaution training; team building games were some of the activities conducted at the Camp.

A Link Leadership Workshop was organised on August 22 at SJKC Keow Kuang, Bukit Mertajam for 150 Link members. The objectives of this event were to obtain the involvement of our Link members from the primary schools; to encourage better integration and better relationship amongst the schools; and to equip the members with basic first aid knowledge. The activities included foot-drill training; skills in setting up tents; techniques of transporting casualties; team building games; Fundamental Principles of Red Crescent; practical first aid and bandaging.

On December 14, the Branch received a visit from 38 pre-school teachers pursuing the Kursus Diploma Perguruan Malaysia at the Institute Perguruan Pulau Pinang. The visit was hosted by Mr Lim Kuo Shee and MRC Trainer Mdm Tye Yuik Chun. A First Aid Talk was given to the group.

The Island Chapter organised the Island Chapter Youth Foot-drill Competition on July 4 at the Base of Regimen 509, Askar Wataniah. The participants came from the Youth units of the secondary schools. The Chapter held a Mass Enrolment Ceremony for the Youth Units on August 22 at the Dewan Hitachi, Penang Branch office.

The Island Chapter VAD & Youth Interaction Day was held on November 29 at the Penang Water Sports Centre. A total of 100 Youth and VAD members attended this outdoor activity. The programmes included Blood Donation, MRC Exhibition, team-building, Telematch and games, and the day ended with a BBQ dinner.

The SPU Chapter (Seberang Perai Utara Chapter) organised the following events during the year:-

  • SPU Chapter Youth Units Administration Course on March 7 at SPU Chapter Office in Butterworth. 20 Youth officers from various schools attended.
  • SPU Chapter Youth Education in Red Cross & Red Crescent Course on April 11 at Kepala Batas . A total of 60 members attended.
  • SPU Chapter Youth Basic First Aid Course on April 18 at Kepala Batas. A total of 110 members attended.
  • SPU Chapter Youth Foot-drill Competition I on May 2 at SK St Mark, Butterworth. A total of 72 Youth members participated.
  • SPU Chapter Youth Foot-drill Competition II on July 26 at SK St Mark, Butterworth. A total of 70 Youth members took part.

The SPT Chapter organised a Youth Foot-drill Training Course on August 15 at SPT Office in Alma, Bukit Mertajam. This was open to Youth Units from the various secondary schools.

On October 3, SPT Chapter held a Youth BBQ Gathering. 20 Youth members attended.

The SPT Chapter Youth & VAD Annual Dinner 2009 was held on December 19 at The Summit Hotel, Bukit Mertajam. A total of 60 members attended.

The Youths and Links were also involved in several external events and achieved recognition from the Education Department in many of these events:-

  • The Central Seberang Perai (SPT) District Education Office appointed Ms Lily Foo (MRC Youth officer of SMK Sama Gagah, Permatang Puah) as Technical Officer of Co-curriculum to co-ordinate the MRC Youth activities at the SPT District.
  • The District Education Office also appointed Mdm Ooi Hwei Ching (MRC Link Officer of SJKC Keow Kuang Bukit Mertajam) and Ms Lily Foo as judges for the Uniform Bodies Foot-drill Competition. Both of them have outstanding service records in co-curriculum activities and have been duly recognised by the District Education Office.
  • On April 1, SMK Jit Sin (Youth Unit 16) emerged as Champions in the District-level Secondary School Uniform Bodies Formation Foot-drill Competition organised by SPT District Education Office.
  • On April 2, SJKC Keow Kuang Bukit Mertajam (Link Unit 70) took the Championship for the District Level Primary School Uniform Bodies Formation Foot-drill Competition organised by the SPT Education Office.
  • Four boys and a teacher from SJKC Keow Kuang MRC Link were invited by the Penang State Education Department to join the State-level In-house Training Camp for Primary School Uniform Bodies held on April 9 & 10. The same group was sent to attend the National Primary Boys’ School Uniform Bodies Camp at Manjung, Lumut, Perak on April11- 16.
  • For the National Boys’ Camp for Secondary School Uniform Bodies organised on April 13 – 19 by the Ministry of Education at Kuala Nerang, Kedah, six of our Youth members from four Youth Units participated.
  • Our Youth Officer, Ms Lily Foo and four girls from our Youth Units were selected by the Penang State Education Department to take part in the State-level In-house Girls’ Training Camp for Secondary School Uniform Bodies held on April 22 – 24 at Pusat Kecemerlangan Sukan Westland, Penang. This same group also took part in the National Girls’ Camp for Uniform Bodies in Kelantan.
  • On August 8 – 13, the Ministry of Education organised a Malaysia – Thailand Border Jamboree. The Penang Education Department selected 6 of our Youth members together with members from other uniform bodies to participate in this event.
  • In recognition of the efforts of MRC Penang Branch, the Penang Education Department invited Mr Lim Kuo Shee, the Branch Assistant Director of Youths, to attend the State Co-curriculum Award Presentation on November 11.
  • The Penang Education Department organised the State-level Leadership Camp for Uniform Bodies in Secondary schools from November 9 – 12. The Department invited three MRC teachers (Mr Daniel Lim, Mdm Ooi Hwei Ching, and Ms Lily Foo) to be trainers at this event. The Department also invited 20 Youth members to take part in the Camp.

External Events & Achievements

1) April 20-26: State Education Department (JPN) selected SMK Jln Damai MRC Youth members to take part in Perkhemahan Persepadu Pasukan Badan Beruniform (Putera) Sek. Men. Peringkat Kebangsaan at Pusat Kokurikulum Pulau Pinang

2) SMK Jit Sin Youth (Unit 16) won the Champion in the district level uniform bodies Formation Footdrill Competition among the secondary schools on 14 April 2008 organized by PPD Seberang Perai Tengah.

3) SJKC Keow Kuang Bkt Mertajam MRC Link unit won the Champion in the district level Uniform bodies Formation Footdrill Competition among the Primary Schools organized by PPD Seberang Perai Tengah on 08 April 2008 and again won 2nd Runner-up in JPN State level Uniform bodies Formation Footdrill Competition at Pusat Kokurikulum Pulau Pinang on 08 May 2008.

4) 60 members from Island Chapter MRC Youth won 2nd runner up in the Merdeka day March Pass on 31 August 2008 in conjunction with 51st National Day celebration at Queensbay Penang.

5) MRC Youth Officers: Ms. Foo Lily and Ms. Ooi Hwei Ching were selected as committee & facilitators to assist the District Education Office in organizing the training camp “PPD Seberang Perai Utara & Tengah Kursus Kenaikan Pangkat Badan Beruniform”: 31 Oct – 3 Nov (Secondary schools) and 7 – 9 Nov (Primary schools) at Pusat Latihan Khidmat Negara Kem Syruz Machang Bubok, Bukit Mertajam.

A) Internal RC Events

1. Youth Footdrill Training Course
Date : 14 March 2007 (School holiday)
Venue : Penang Youth Park (MPPP)
Participation : 140 pax
Objectives :
To standardised the footdrill instructions for all youth units at secondary schools.
To improve the foundation of marching skill and prepared for future Annual Parade.
Those completed the course and passed the evaluation by Army Footdrill Instructor will be qualified and rewarded with MRC Youth Footdrill proficiency badge.

2. Youth Development Forum
Date : 03 Apr 2007
Venue : MRCS Penang Branch Headquarter
Participation : 100 MRC Teachers (Youth Officers) from Secondary Schools
Objectives :
To meet all youth unit officers or teacher in-charges in secondary schools to discuss about the youth co-curriculum plans, activities and programs
To standardise the procedures for the implementation of MRC Youth Proficiency Badges, Examination and Certificates application

3. Link Development Forum
Date : 11 Apr 2007
Venue : MRCS Penang Branch Headquarter
Participation : 120 MRC Teachers (Link Officers) from Primary School Units
Objectives :
To share information with all unit officers or teacher in-charges in primary schools and planning co-curriculum activities for the children/junior members
To standardise the procedures for the implementation of MRC Link Proficiency Badges and Certificates application

4. International RCY Friendship Greeting Card Exchange Program
Feb 2007: Children from Japanese Red Cross exchange greeting cards with ASEAN (including Malaysian Red Crescent); 2 Link units at Island Chapter were selected to begin

5. Youth International Friendship Proficiency Badge Course
Date : 05 & 12 May 2007
Venue : SMK (A) Al-Irshad
Participation : 80 pax
SPU chapter gathered the students from RC youth units at Kepala Batas and Butterworth areas to take the core subject “Education in Red Cross & Red Crescent Society” and passed the examination to obtain the certificate from National HQ as requirement for them to go for the Youth International Friendship Proficiency Badge.

6. SPU Chapter Youth Camp
Date : 26 – 27 May 2007
Venue : SMK Teluk Air Tawar
Participation : 100 pax
This camp provides training in first aid skills and knowledge in RC.

7. SPU Chapter Link Workshop
Date : 27 May 2007
Venue : SPU Chapter & SK St. Mark
Participation : 100 pax
This event encouraged the strong relationship between the youth and link members by created playing and learning atmosphere together.

8. Participation to MRC National Youth Camp – “Kem Tutti Fratelli Ke-12”
Date : 4 to 7 June 2007
Venue : Bkt Cahaya Sri Alam, Tmn Pertanian M’sia, Shah Alam, Selangor
MRC Penang Branch have selected and sent 5 outstanding youth leaders from Unit-16 SMK Jit Sin BM to take part in this national level camp. They are: Chern Choon Keit, Jeffrey Ooi, Teoh Yang Shan, Maybelle Heng Huay Chin & Theam Yi Yun. The shortlist based on the unit strengths, member’s qualification, commitments and response from their respective chapter OC Youth, teacher, parents and the school.

9. RC Youth Exhibition
Date : 23 June 2007
Venue : SMK Seberang Jaya
Participation : 200 pax
The exhibition and first aid demonstration was planned and hosted by Youth Unit-43 with assistance from SPTS Chapter Youth Leaders and Officers.

10. RC Youth Annual Dinner
Date : 22 August 2007
Venue : The Summit Hotel, Bukit Mertajam Plaza
Participation : 300 pax
VAD volunteers get closer with youth leaders in this dinner.

11. RC Youth Gathering
Date : 22 Sept 2007
Venue : SMK Berapit, Bukit Mertajam
Participation : 500 pax
SPTS Chapter organized this gathering for all youth members.

12. Island Chapter Youth Adventure Walk
Date : 10 November 2007
Venue : Hutan Lipur Teluk Bahang
Participation : 90 pax

13. Youth Leadership Camp 2007
Date : 28 – 30 November 2007
Venue : Pusat Kokurikulum Pulau Pinang (Kem Mutiara)
Participation : 300 pax
To achieve the youth mission as stated in MRC 5 years strategic planning, the Penang Branch Youth Leadership Camp 2007 is jointly organized with Penang State Education Department (JPN). Besides leadership training and camp crafts, the program also involved the practical learning from Bomba, PDRM, Scouts and professional talk on AIDS/HIV in-conjunction with World AIDS day campaign.

14. SPTS Youth visit to National HQ
Date : 14 – 16 December 2007
Venue : National Headquarter, Kuala Lumpur
Participation : 40 pax
This trip not only visiting to National HQ, the SPTS chapter youth members also visited Kuala Lumpur and Genting Highland.

B) External Events

1. RC Youth taking part in Thailand Jamboree 2007
17 to 20 Aug. (Training Camp at Mengkuang, Bukit Mertajam)
– All uniform bodies gathered by Penang State Education Department (JPN)
23 to 25 Aug. (Zone Camp at SM Teknik, Perlis) – Centralized training for participants from Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Kelantan & Terengganu
25 to 30 Aug. (Camp Jamboree at Songkhla, Thailand)
The cost of traveling and participation are sponsored by Ministry of Education. Below is the list of representatives from MRC Penang Branch:

2. RC Link participate to JPN Leadership Course for Uniform Bodies
Date : 4 – 7 November 2007
Venue : Suria Beach Resort, Pulau Pangkor, Perak
Participation :
JPN Penang selected 2 RC Link officers as Facilitators to assist their secretariat:
– Cikgu Ooi Hwei Ching (SJKC Keow Kuang, Bkt Mertajam)
– Cikgu Tan Lay Pheng (SJKC Kwang Hwa, Butterworth)
Together with 27 RC Link members to take part in this course:
– SK Guar Perahu : 10 members
– SJKC Nung Min : 5 members
– SJKC Seng Keow : 5 members
– SK Sungai Acheh : 3 members
– SK Sungai Setar : 2 members
– SJKC Keow Kuang : 2 members
This course is fully sponsored by Penang State Education Department (JPN). There
was 160 participants selected from various uniform bodies (PBSM, PPIM, PPT,
TKRS, SJAM) in primary schools joined in this state level training course.

3. RC Link participate to National Level Children Camp for Uniform Bodies
Date : 27 – 30 November 2007
Venue : Kuantan, Pahang
Participants :
RC Link Officer Mdm Ooi Hwei Ching and another Scout Teacher were selected by
JPN Unit Co-curriculum to lead 80 children (2 buses) from several uniform bodies at
Penang Primary Schools to take part in this camping. Out of this number, 7 are from
our RC Link unit as below:
· SJKC Keow Kuang : 4 members
· SJKC Boon Beng : 3 members
All expenses were sponsored by JPN. The children went through the skills training
and evaluation by senior officers from MRC Pahang Branch.

C) External Achievement

In April 2007, RC Link Unit of SJKC Keow Kuang Bkt Mertajam from the SPTS chapter won the Champion and Best Contingent Leader in The Formation Footdrill Competition of Uniform Bodies (Primary school category) organized by District Education Office(PPD). Then they also represent the district to the State level competition hold by Penang State Education Department (JPN) and again won the overall 2nd runner-up in May 2007.

RC Youth Unit-16 SMJK Jit Sin Bkt Mertajam also won the 1st runner-up for Secondary School category at PPD district level.
