Founder’s Day 2009: “Our World, Your Move!”

The Malaysian Red Crescent Penang Branch will be organizing the Founder’s Day 2009 in-conjunction with “World Red Cross & Red Crescent Day 2009” from May 8 to 10, 2009 at 10.00am to 10.00pm at Level 4, Gurney Plaza, Penang.

The main objective of the campaign is to instill awareness and understanding of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and its humanitarian work worldwide. Apart from that, the campaign will also include, but not limited to the followings:

i) Poster Drawing Competition: opened to all Red Crescent Youth members (Secondary schools) in Penang – Final selection will be judged on May 8, 2009 at Gurney Plaza and will be announced immediately.  All entries must reach MRC Penang Branch Headquarters, 26, Grove Road, 11400 Penang by April 30, 2009 at 5.00pm. Late entries will not be entertained.

ii)  Colouring Competition: opened to all Red Crescent Link members (Primary schools) in Penang – Winners will be announced immediately on May 9, 2009 at Gurney Plaza.  All entries must reach MRC Penang Branch Headquarters, 26, Grove Road, 11400 Penang by May 4, 2009 at 5.00pm. Late entries will not be entertained.

iii)  Exhibition on Red Cross/Red Crescent around the world including the Malaysian Red Crescent.

iv)  Blood Donation Campaign.

1.        Participation is open to all Youth Units (Secondary School), MRC Penang Branch

2.    Posters should be 20″ X 25″ (51cm X 64cm) white or coloured manila card.

3.    Media may be cut paper, poster paints, India ink, string, spatter work, charcoal drawings or any suitable art materials.  Generally, crayons and coloured pencils do not present well.

4.    The competition’s theme must be on the poster.

5.    The posters are the works of groups.  Each group comprise of 4 – 6 students.

6.    Name of students, name of school, mailing address of school and telephone number of school should be typed or printed on a 10cm X 12cm card.  This card should be attached on the back of the poster in lower right-hand corner.

7.    Each school may submit up to three (3) posters.  However, no more than two (2) posters from a school will be selected for the final judging by the panel of judges.

8.     Posters which do not meet all contest requirements would be eliminated at the preliminary level and will not be submitted for the final judging.

9.        Posters must not be laminated.

10.    Posters MUST be the students’ original work.

11.    Red and white are compulsory colours.

12.    The Red Cross and Red Crescent logos are also compulsory.

13.    Posters can be in either English and/or in Bahasa Malaysia.

14.    All posters should be submitted no later than April 30, 2009 at 5.00pm to MRC Penang Branch Headquarters, 26, Grove Road, 11400 Penang. The final judging is scheduled on May 8, 2009 at Level 4, Gurney Plaza.

Judging Process and Criteria
A distinguished panel of professionals and field experts will judge the preliminary and final competitions. First, they will each nominate a select number of favourites to go on to a final round of judging to be held on May 8, 2009. Then, from the finalist pool, they will review and score all finalists against the following judging criteria:

1.  Clarity of Message

2.  Conveys Information – The posters must express an idea to suggest a world at peace.

3.  Effectiveness in Attracting Attention.

4.  Artistic Merit – The art work should stimulate and spark reaction.  Red and white are compulsory colours.

5.  Neatness.

6.  Accuracy – All information must be accurate.  Advertising commercial brands is not acceptable.

7.  The degree of importance for each judging criteria is at the discretion of the jury. There may also be additional, more specific judging criteria.

Submission of an entry to this contest signifies the students’ agreement to reproduce original work.

MRC Penang Branch will exercise care in handling the entries, but cannot assume liability for loss or damage. All entries will be the property of the MRC Penang Branch. MRC Penang Branch reserves the rights to make any changes to the rules and regulations of the competition without any prior notice to the participants should the need arise. MRC Penang Branch also reserves the rights to use all entries for exhibition or promotional purposes without any prior written or verbal agreement and/or approval from the artist.

Third                    :    RM 150.00
Consolation x 3  :    RM   50.00 each

Submission Deadline
Submission deadline is April 30, 2009 at 5.00pm. Please send to MRC Penang Branch Headquarters, 26, Grove Road, 11400 Penang.. Please make sure that your entry is in working order and on time. No responsibility is assumed on our part for late entries. Incomplete entries or entries that do not comply with the above format specifications will be automatically disqualified.

Note: Due to the high volume of last-minute entries, we advise you to submit your entry well in advance of the submission deadline.
