FIVE Malaysian Red Crescent (MRC) ambulances and about 150 Penang branch members will be on 24-hour standby during the festive period to assist in emergencies.

Chairman Datuk B.J. Yeang said the MRC squads would be stationed at Permatang Tinggi near Bukit Mertajam, central Seberang Prai district, Jalan Raja Uda, Butterworth, north Seberang Prai district and Batu Maung from 7am to 7pm.

After 7pm, members will be on standby at the MRC Penang headquarters in Jalan Grove, Air Itam, and at its branch office in Jalan St Marks, Butterworth.

“These members are trained in first aid, pre-hospital care and basic life support and will give on-the- spot treatment to minimise further injury, before sending road accident victims to the nearest hospital,” she said when launching the service at the Petronas station in Jalan Raja Uda, Butterworth.

Also present was north Seberang Prai district Crime Prevention and Community Policing chief DSP Saw Hock Teik, who advised road users to be alert and observe traffic rules.
