MRC Heritage Walk 2010

Tuesday, September 21st, 2010

The MRC Heritage Walk 2010 is a fund-raising event organised by the Malaysian Red Crescent, (MRC) Penang Branch.  It will be held on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at the Esplanade (Padang Kota Lama).

This is the second year that the MRC, Penang Branch is organising this Heritage Walk, in conjunction with the Second Anniversary of the City of Georgetown being named as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Apart from our MRC members, we encourage members of the public to participate in the Heritage Walk.  This year we are working with several corporate organisations and companies to send their staff members to take part in the Walk.

The corporate bodies will pay for the Registration Fees on behalf of their staff so that this becomes a “company” outing where their staff can enjoy taking part in a healthy event while at the same time, take in the sights and sounds of the Inner City of Georgetown. While their staff benefit from exercising and “team-building”, the corporate bodies also get to do their Social Corporate Responsibility (CSP) by contributing funds to the Red Crescent for its humanitarian work.

We hope more and more corporate bodies will join in the Heritage Walk and send their staff members for the Walk. Please contact our office for more details. (Tel: 04-827 5678, Mr Sunn or Ms Clancy).  The Registration Fee is RM30 each.  Every participant will be given a free T-shirt which participants have to wear for the Walk, in order to qualify for the Lucky Draw, at the end of the Walk.

MRC Penang branch chairman Datuk B. J. Yeang said the event on Oct 10 was held to raise money for the society’s activities.

“I am very happy with the response because the turnout was good although it was a wet day.

“We almost achieved our RM150,000 collection target. The money collected will be channelled to our administration fund, first aid training programme for disaster relief and running of our 12-hour ambulance ser-vice,” she said.
