THE Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) in Penang is hoping to raise RM200,000 to fund its 12-hour ambulance service.

The society will be holding the MRCS Charity Food Fair 2016 to raise the amount.

Event organising chairman Tan Ee Lye said the food fair would be held on Oct 16 at the Chai Leng Park multi-purpose hall in Prai from 9am to 1.30pm.

He said there are three 12-hour ambulance service centres situated in Permatang Tinggi and Butterworth on the mainland, and one in Batu Maung on the island.

“We are expecting about 3,000 people to attend the event,” he told a press conference at the MRCS Penang headquarters in Grove Road recently.

MRCS Penang branch chairman Datuk B.J. Yeang said the society needs funds to train members, upgrade its ambulance service and rescue vehicles and for the operations of the state and district administrative offices.

She also reminded the public to bring their own bags or containers to support the state government’s ‘No Plastic Bag’ policy.

Also present was state Wel-fare, Caring Society, Health and Environment Committee chairman Phee Boon Poh.

He commended the society for its humanitarian-based work and appealed to the public to lend the group a helping hand.

Each booklet is priced at RM30 and available at the MRCS Penang headquarters as well as the society’s district offices.
