Inter Factory First Aid Competition 2009 (Northern Region)

The Malaysian Red Crescent Penang Branch will be organising the 1st Inter – Factory First Aid Competition 2009, for all employees of factories and organisations located in the Northern Region (Penang, Kedah & Perlis) who have attended first aid training conducted by MRC.

This objective of this competition is to promote higher awareness of the importance of first aid in emergency situations and how first aid can play a crucial role in helping to save lives.

ERT members and trained first aiders from the factories and organisations are encouraged to participate as this is an excellent platform to generate further interest in the importance first aid and in the need to have more people trained as first aiders so that more lives can be saved.

There will be awards for the top three winners of the competition and the champion  will have  the privilege  of  keeping  the  Annual Challenge Trophy for a year, to be returned to MRC, 2 months  before  for  this  annual  competition  in next  year.

IMPORTANCE OF FIRST AID TRAINING

First Aid is the immediate assistance or treatment given to someone injured or suddenly taken ill, before the arrival of ambulance or other appropriately qualified person (medical help).
- to preserve life
- to limit worsening of a condition
- to promote recovery

THE OBJECTIVE

The MALAYSIAN RED CRESCENT SOCIETY, Penang Branch provide First Aid Training courses to individuals and employees of organizations or factories, to enable them to be safety conscious and able to respond & render First Aid treatment if an emergency situation arises.

The Society hopes to be able to achieve the aim to train at least one First Aider in every home as emergency situations may arise in the home and life could be saved by those who have been trained in First Aid.

FIRST AID TRAINING COURSES

The Society have been providing packaged courses, with fees charged on a per group basis and the courses are conducted in-house, i.e. the premises of the organizations or factories.

First Aid training is part of the Safety Training programme of the respective organizations and our courses are recognized by all the various Government Ministries.
Organizations contributing to the HRDF are able to claim reimbursement for the cost of the courses from the Human Resource Development Fund.

TYPES OF FIRST AID COURSES FOR ORGANIZATIONS

Two types of First Aid course are offered ( certificate course with examinations ):

1. Introduction to First Aid & CPR - ( 12 hours )
2. Basic First Aid – ( 20 hours )

The certificates are valid for three years from the date of examination and are recognized worldwide.

The First Aid Training courses are conducted by qualified MRCS Instructors with at least five years experience with the Malaysian Red Crescent Society.

Certificates for Schools

  1. Education in Red Cross and Red Crescent  – 4 ch
  2. First Aid in the Community  – 17 ch

Basic Certificates

  1. Basic First Aid  – 20 ch
  2. Education in Red Cross / Red Crescent & International Humanitarian Law  – 8 ch
  3. Disaster Relief and Rescue Operations  – 10 ch
  4. Home Nursing or Health Education (choose either one)  6 ch

Advanced Certificates

  1. Advance First Aid  – 24 ch
  2. Administration and Management  – 8 ch

MRC certified Instructor

  1. Passed all Basic and Advanced Certificate Examinations
  2. Teaching Methodology (Teachers are exempted)  – 12 ch

MRC certified Senior Instructor

  1. Have done at least 30 hours of teaching experience in the Basic courses and assisted the Senior Instructor in conducting the Advanced courses.
  2. Minimum 3 years experience as MRC certified Instructor.
  3. International Humanitarian Law (IHL)  – 8ch
  4. Basic Life Support (BLS)  – 14 ch
  5. Have performed the training duties to serve the society and recommended by the Branch Chairman.

FIRST AID COURSES FOR ORGANIZATIONS

The First Aid training program is generally offered to the public and organizations as a group package basis.  There are two types of certificate courses and the training is conducted in-house at your designated venue. The training module comprises of : theory & practical training, & trauma simulation exercise. There will be an examination to certify the successful participants as a qualified First Aider.

TYPE OF COURSES – GROUP PACKAGE

1.  Introduction to First Aid and CPR (certificate program – Basic Level)
Duration : 12 hours

Schedule :
Two – day option : 8 hours + 4 hours (Standard program)
Session 1 : Theory & Practical Training
Session 2 : Trauma Simulation Exercise & Examination

Examination : Four sections : – Theory, Oral, Practical & CPR

Certification : Certificates will be issued by MRCS National Headquarters to participants obtaining a minimum of 50% pass in all sections.

Condition : Participants must attend all sessions to be eligible to sit for the examinations

Course Fee :
Fee is inclusive of triangular bandages for practical training.
First Aid manuals will be provided for each participant.

Class size : Limited to maximum of 30 participants

2. Basic First Aid (Certificate program – Intermediate Level)
Duration : 24 hours

Schedule :
Three-day option : 8 hours + 8 hours + 8 hours (Standard Program)
Session 1 : Theory & Practical Training
Session 2 : Theory & Practical Training
Session 3 : Trauma Simulation Exercise & Examination

Examination : Four sections : – Theory, Oral, Practical & CPR

Certification : Certificates issued by MRCS National Headquarters to participants
obtaining a minimum of 50% pass in all sections.

Condition : Participants must attend at least 75% of the total sessions to be eligible to sit for the examinations.

Fee : Fee is inclusive of triangular bandages for practical training.
First Aid manuals will be provided for each participant.

Class size : Limited to maximum of 30 participants

NORTHERN ZONE POTENTIAL INSTRUCTOR COURSE

a) To trained active members to become Instructors.
b) To increased more Instructors for the demand of courses in the market and training projects.
c) Shortage of Instructors in the Zone.

Results (Passing rate):
