12 Hours Fulltime Ambulance Service

Friday, May 11th, 2007

The Malaysian Red Crescent Society Penang Branch has successfully started the 12hrs Ambulance Service on 15th February 2007. Currently we have four full time staffs working 12 hours a day. The full time staff work from Monday to Saturday and our Volunteers from VAD (Voluntary Aid Detachment) volunteer their services on Sunday.

The service operates on a 12 hour basis from 7.00am to 7.00pm stationed at Permatang Tinggi, Seberang Perai Tengah with a container as a base cum office. This location was selected based on its strategic location between two hospitals namely Bukit Mertajam Hospital (SPT) and Sungai Bakap Hospital (SPS). It is also located near the Industrial Park and the North-South Highway.

Our ambulances communicate via the PEARL Network (two way radio) which connects all government hospitals and its ambulances together with other ambulance service providers such as Malaysian Red Crescent Society. The public just need to call 999 and the operator will connect them to the nearest Hospital, and the Hospital concerned will locate the ambulance nearest to the place of accident. Its aim is to cut down the response time. The public can also call us through our direct line 04-5880088. As to date we had responded to an average of 3 cases a day.
